Job Summary

The State of Connecticut is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Seasonal Resource Assistant in the Wetlands Habitat and Mosquito Management (WHAMM) program. As a key member of our team, you will assist in conducting mosquito control activities, applying herbicides to control invasive plants, operating light and heavy equipment in wetland environments, and supporting management activities on state wildlife areas.

Responsibilities
  • Collect baseline data to inform ecological restoration decisions
  • Prepare permit applications and assist staff in inspecting wetlands for mosquitoes and invasive plants
  • Mix and apply pesticides as needed
  • Research relevant technical studies and historic land use records related to wetlands and their use
  • Assist in wetland vegetation surveys, elevational surveys, and other wetland assessments
  • Perform basic clerical duties
Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Willingness to obtain Connecticut Pesticide Junior Operator's license (training and exam provided at no cost)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Experience with using and maintaining machinery and power equipment
  • Experience in carpentry, plumbing, mechanical repairs, grounds maintenance, trailer towing, and boat handling
  • Experience operating construction equipment
  • Connecticut boating certificate
  • Experience using computers and Microsoft Office Suite
Working Conditions

Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class. Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
