Vascular Ultrasound Technologist Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Vascular Ultrasound Technologist to join our team at Beacon Health System. As a Vascular Ultrasound Technologist, you will be responsible for performing high-quality ultrasound scans and procedures, utilizing your expertise in vascular ultrasound to provide accurate and reliable results.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform ultrasound scans and procedures, including abdominal, doppler, and vascular scans, using high-frequency ultrasound equipment.
  • Obtain pertinent clinical history and communicate with referring physicians and other healthcare personnel.
  • Explain procedures to patients and families, and ensure quality patient care.
  • Practice sterile and isolation techniques to prevent contamination.
  • Assess patient condition and report to nurse or radiologist as needed.
  • Perform CPR and other supportive emergency procedures.
  • Select routine and special ultrasound transducers, conductive gels, and oils for each procedure.
  • Utilize digital storage systems and perform a variety of vascular studies, including arterial studies.
  • Measure segmental pulse volume recording, obtain analog Doppler waveforms, and grade and evaluate Doppler signals.
  • Calculate ankle-brachial index and evaluate findings to determine patient needs.
  • Obtain PPG tracings and measure blood pressure in each great toe.
  • Perform ultrasound and general assistance during vascular procedures, maintaining sterile fields and assisting physicians as directed.
  • Recovers patients post-procedure, including discharge instructions and follow-up appointments.
  • Fits patients for compression stockings and performs daily operations of the clinic, including inventory management and patient scheduling.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an approved school of radiology technology or an approved ultrasound school.
  • Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • Certification for ultrasound by the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine (AIUM) or obtain within the first six months of employment.
  • Obtain the Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) credential or the Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) credential within 18 months of employment.
  • Demonstrate analytical skills, high-level communication skills, and proficiency in patient clinical assessment and vascular clinical examination/testing.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail, and maintain effective working relationships with reading and referring physicians and associates.
