Job Overview

As an Aquatic Safety Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all individuals utilizing the aquatic facilities. Your role involves preventing accidents, delivering water safety education, and providing lifesaving services to swimmers in distress while maintaining the overall cleanliness and functionality of the swimming pool and surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Observe swimmers to assess the need for emergency rescue services; execute rescues for individuals in distress; administer CPR/AED as necessary.
  • Prevent injuries by overseeing facility operations and usage; provide water safety education; and monitor water quality standards.
  • Maintain proficiency in lifesaving techniques and emergency response through regular drills, training sessions, and physical fitness activities.
  • Enforce facility rules and regulations; report any issues to the supervisor; assist in managing patrons who may disrupt safety or order.
  • Administer basic first aid; keep track of first aid supplies; restock first aid kits; and complete reports on any injuries or incidents.
  • Deliver customer service by addressing inquiries and providing information to visitors; assist the public during pool clearances.
  • Conduct swim instruction as part of the Swim Central initiative; tailor lesson plans to accommodate individual learning needs and assess progress at the end of the program; lead aquatic exercise classes and help develop program curricula.
  • Prepare facilities for daily operations, special events, and party rentals.
  • Inspect operational and rescue equipment to ensure proper condition; evaluate the aquatic facility for potential safety hazards and report findings to the supervisor.
  • Perform maintenance and minor repairs such as cleaning pool tiles, vacuuming, painting, and other cleaning duties as assigned; communicate maintenance issues to the supervisor.
  • Monitor water quality through testing, document results, and inform the on-deck supervisor if results deviate from Health Department standards.

    Additional Duties

    • Assist in planning and executing aquatic activities and events.

    • Support park special events.

    • Perform other related tasks as required.
Minimum Requirements
  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years old.
  • Fingerprinting is required.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Lifeguard certification.
  • Must hold and maintain current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
Supplemental Information
  • Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
  • Essential Employees may be required to work during emergencies as determined by the County's Administrative Office.
