Key Responsibilities
  • Furnace Management
    • Start and maintain furnace temperatures to ensure optimal glass production.
    • Fill glass tanks with pre-heated cullet and manage furnace charging processes.
    • Collect and store cullet, and refill chute systems as needed.
    • Monitor and troubleshoot furnace issues to minimize downtime.
  • Annealer Operations
    • Unload and process glass products from annealers, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
    • Check and maintain annealer elements and fuses to prevent equipment failure.
    • Run and monitor annealer programs to ensure optimal glass quality.
  • Shop Maintenance
    • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including sweeping, hosing, and squeegeeing the hot shop.
    • Reorganize and replace furniture as needed to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
    • Straighten blow pipes and empty garbage cans to maintain a clean and organized workspace.
    • Cork molds and unload unused color from color boxes to ensure efficient production.
    • Turn off gas lines and bleed systems to prevent equipment damage.
    • Retrieve tubs from storage and perform additional tasks as needed to support production.
  • Sunday Operations
    • Arrive on schedule and start furnaces to begin charging processes.
    • Empty and refill glass tanks designated for the week.
    • Cork molds and empty pipe troughs to prepare for production.
    • Assist with odd jobs and tasks as needed to support production.
    Requirements
    • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
      • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects with varying priorities and deadlines.
      • High standards and attention to detail to ensure quality and safety.
      • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think critically in fast-paced environments.
      • Self-motivation and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Education and Experience
      • High school diploma or equivalent required.
      • Mechanical training or experience a plus.
      • Previous experience in a hot shop or glass production environment preferred.
    • Physical Demands
      • Ability to lift 55 pounds frequently and stand for long periods.
      • Frequent walking, bending, stopping, and climbing required.
      • Ability to work in a moderate noise environment and communicate effectively with team members.
      • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed to support production.
