We are looking for an EHSQ Specialist to support our East Chicago, IN facility in meeting its Environmental, Health, Safety, and Quality (EHSQ) objectives. This position is vital for upholding safety, compliance, and quality benchmarks, ensuring a secure environment for our workforce and the surrounding community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote a proactive safety culture and ensure adherence to regulations by developing procedures, performing audits, and managing documentation. Act as the primary contact with local regulatory bodies for site safety and environmental compliance, ensuring timely completion of all necessary reporting.
- Facilitate and deliver training for employees on health, safety, and environmental matters, maintaining precise training records. Address safety issues promptly and assess new products, materials, and processes for effective hazard communication and safety protocols.
- Coordinate incident investigations, follow up on action plans to prevent future occurrences, and manage document control in accordance with ISO and corporate standards using SharePoint. Stay updated with corporate EHSQ standards, implementing enhancements and training staff on any changes.
- Oversee the emergency response program and medical monitoring initiatives per corporate guidelines and the plant's Integrated Contingency Plan. Develop and supervise the implementation of site Industrial Hygiene protocols, including the personal protective equipment program.
- Lead the facility's waste reduction and Behavioral Safety Programs, emphasizing sustainable practices and positive reinforcement. Collaborate with production teams to improve health, safety, environmental, and quality processes, and engage in hands-on laboratory work as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Health and Safety Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience in a chemical or manufacturing setting.
- Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, and relevant state regulations is advantageous.
- Capability to perform laboratory bench work.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with experience in drafting and reviewing procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and prioritize multiple responsibilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and SAP.
