Job Overview: HVAC Technician

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts maintenance and repairs on compressor-driven heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, including motors and control mechanisms.
  • Utilizes various measuring instruments such as voltmeters, ammeters, and ohmmeters, along with hand tools and heavy machinery.
  • Keeps detailed records of all services and repairs conducted.
  • Interprets technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics effectively.
  • Performs cleaning of boilers and associated equipment to ensure optimal safety and functionality.
  • Inspects and repairs boiler components, including safety valves, regulators, automatic controls, and auxiliary machines like pumps and fans.
  • Installs, maintains, and replaces exhaust systems, cooling fans, belts, and motors.
  • Operates various vehicles to transport tools and materials to job sites.
  • Responds to urgent service calls, providing troubleshooting and repair services.
  • Works additional hours as necessary to fulfill repair obligations as directed by supervisors.
  • Assesses supply needs based on work orders and site evaluations, procuring materials from inventory.
  • Reviews and processes written and verbal work orders from supervisors.
  • Ensures that site personnel sign off on work orders upon arrival and completion of tasks.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the work area following the completion of tasks.
  • Adheres to all relevant laws, codes, and regulations during work execution.
  • Prepares and implements necessary installations to integrate new systems with existing setups.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.

  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to committees relevant to the role.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Interpersonal skills to engage with diverse groups.
  • Familiarity with community, computer systems, and financial/legal requirements.
  • Capability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic and electronic controls, filters, compressors, and regulators.
  • Understanding of electrical and gas components and safety protocols.
  • Awareness of relevant codes, regulations, and laws.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Journeyman Gas License and Boiler Operator's License in New Mexico.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment evaluations.
  • New Mexico driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Four years of experience in HVAC installation and repair or an Associate's Degree in HVAC with two years of experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands necessary for this role include:

  • Regularly lifting and moving equipment and materials weighing over 75 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
  • Manipulating objects and utilizing various controls.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Normal vision and hearing capabilities.
  • Mobility around the worksite and adherence to safety clothing requirements.
