Natural Resource Management Specialist

General Information
Work Environment: The role encompasses both indoor office tasks and outdoor fieldwork. The position involves physically demanding activities in diverse weather conditions and on uneven terrain. Responsibilities may include lifting equipment up to 30 lbs independently and up to 60 lbs with assistance. Regular driving of county vehicles is required, along with the ability to navigate ladders and perform various physical tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Engage in comprehensive land management activities, including controlled burns, mechanical treatments, and restoration initiatives.
2. Accurately apply chemicals, such as herbicides, in accordance with safety guidelines to manage invasive plant species and preserve native ecosystems. Maintain records of chemical usage and inventory.
3. Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including mowing, facility cleaning, waste removal, and minor repairs. Operate and care for essential equipment like tractors and bush hogs.
4. Support recreational programs and facilities, including wildlife management and camping areas.
5. Educate the public about department initiatives and enforce preserve regulations as necessary.
6. Collect and process fees for programs, ensuring accurate financial records.
7. Monitor property for unauthorized access and report incidents to appropriate authorities.
8. Adhere to safety protocols to protect oneself and others in natural settings.
9. Complete necessary training and participate in job-specific development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year of experience in conservation or related fields.
- Valid Florida Pesticide Applicator License required within one year of hire.
- Must pass physical fitness tests as required.
- Valid driver’s license is mandatory.
Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to follow instructions and manage time effectively.
- Knowledge of Florida's native plant species and appropriate management techniques.
- Basic math skills for chemical application calculations.
- Understanding of safety regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proficient in computer applications relevant to job duties.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with the public and team members.
Additional Information:
