Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled IT Network Administrator to join our team at the City of Ashland Kentucky. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for maintaining and overseeing our computer networks and systems, ensuring seamless operation and optimal performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and oversee computer networks and systems, including software, mainframes, VPNs, routers, and other physical hardware.
  • Install, configure, and update network equipment to resolve hardware or software issues.
  • Update and manage virus protection software and handle network security issues, such as viruses, malware, and social engineering.
  • Monitor computer systems to optimize network performance, identify potential issues, and improve system reliability.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve software, hardware, and network configuration issues for users.
  • Provide on-site technical support, including hardware and software installations and upgrades.
  • Develop, document, and effectively communicate job processes, procedures, and techniques.
  • Prepare reference material and operation instructions for staff.
  • Communicate network and technical issues to other employees and management.
  • Provide training to new users and support staff in IT processes.
  • Track and maintain equipment inventories, ensuring the availability and functionality of all necessary devices and components.
Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • High school diploma or GED and extensive administrative experience.
  • 3 or more years experience as a network administrator or similar capacity.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to utilize diagnostic tools, service aids, and other product information to resolve equipment failures.
  • Experience configuring and maintaining Cisco network equipment, including firewalls and VoIP systems.
  • Familiarity with Linux systems, VMware, and basic wired/wireless network troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure Active Directory, Office 365, and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
  • Experience with running CAT 5/6 and installing new network drops when needed.
  • Experience in field tech support, including hardware repair, software installation, and providing technical support on-site.
  • Experience handling network security issues (viruses, malware, social engineering)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator or candidate must have experience working with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Associate's degree, A+, Net+, CCNA preferred.
