We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our team at Smith College. As a key member of the Controller's Office, you will play a critical role in supporting the accounting and compliance functions of the College.
Key Responsibilities- Process journal entries, review and post intra-departmental transfers, and reconcile accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Participate in monthly and quarterly closing and reporting processes, including expense allocations, accruing liabilities, and amortizing prepaid expenses.
- Train stakeholders in the College's budget and accounting system, ensuring seamless adoption and utilization.
- Support and enforce College policies and procedures, promoting a culture of compliance and integrity.
- Assist in the preparation of the quarterly financial packet, annual audited financial statements, and required filings.
- Liaise with Information Technology Services to enhance technology use and solve technical problems.
- Support the training and supervision of Controller's Office Contractors, Junior Accountants, and Interns.
- Bachelor's degree and 1-3 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree and/or professional certification such as CPA, as well as demonstrated intermediate accounting knowledge and non-profit and higher education experience.
