Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Coordination:
    • Engage with diverse stakeholders, including municipal agencies, contractors, and community groups.
    • Track project milestones, recognize potential challenges, and implement timely solutions.
  • Program Oversight:
    • Supervise the activities of formal supervisors and technical specialists within the Solid Waste Department.
    • Manage intricate tasks involving solid waste regulations, environmental concerns, and programs led by independent contractors.
    • Ensure compliance with waste-to-energy landfill regulations and associated environmental standards.
  • Financial and Contract Oversight:
    • Monitor project budgets and provide regular financial updates to upper management.
    • Administer contracts, including performance evaluations and invoice approvals.
  • Compliance and Quality Control:
    • Guarantee that all projects adhere to local, state, and federal waste management regulations.
    • Establish and uphold quality assurance processes to maintain high project delivery standards.
    • Conduct site inspections to confirm adherence to project specifications and safety protocols.
  • Communication and Leadership:
    • Act as the primary contact for all project-related inquiries.
    • Prepare and deliver project updates to stakeholders, including senior management and community representatives.
    • Guide and inspire project teams, offering support to achieve project objectives.
  • Special Initiatives:
    • Execute special projects and coordinate departmental initiatives as required.
    • Investigate and resolve various issues related to solid waste programs.
Qualifications:
  • Education and Experience:
    • High School diploma or equivalent and nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience in waste-to-energy landfill or solid waste program management, including two (2) years in a supervisory role; OR
    • Bachelor's degree in environmental management, science, engineering, public administration, or a related field with five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Special Qualifications:
    • Willingness to work varied schedules, including emergency situations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with solid and hazardous waste disposal systems.
  • Understanding of landfill and waste-to-energy permitting laws.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety practices.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software.
  • Ability to manage budgets and oversee contract administration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capacity to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and external agencies.
Work Schedule:
