Job Title: Senior Staff Accountant

Munger, Tolles & Olson is seeking a highly skilled Senior Staff Accountant to join our team. As a key member of our accounting department, you will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity of our financial activities and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the maintenance and integrity of the firm's financial activities and reporting through reconciliations and review of the general ledger.
  • Perform general ledger accounting functions, including daily and monthly bank reconciliations, reconciling balance sheet accounts, preparing and recording journal entries, and maintaining fixed asset schedules.
  • Assist with routine banking functions, including positive pay and daily cash reporting.
  • Review GL coding accuracy for vendor invoicing via Chrome River.
  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly financial statement package.
  • Prepare and maintain financial schedules to support firm's budgeting and reporting requirements.
  • Create various ad hoc accounting reports, as needed, including expenditure analysis and G/L account analysis.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Assist in preparation of tax filings, including business personal property, state/local business taxes, and annual firm tax returns.
  • Work with internal clients to support the integration, adoption, and continuous improvement of standardized processes, application tools, and workflow processes.
  • Perform other duties as required, including providing support to the Accounts Payable team.
  • Bookkeeping and financial statement preparation for the MTO Foundation.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an accounting role, ideally in a law firm or other professional services organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance preferred; HS diploma with relevant job experience also considered.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy while paying close attention to detail.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
  • Expert knowledge of processes, methods, and tools of financial reporting and advanced ability to create and maintain accurate and thorough financial reports.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple tasks and prioritizing workload with effective independent follow-up.
  • Expert knowledge of and ability to read, interpret, and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.
  • Maintain confidentiality around sensitive information.
  • Experience using financial and accounting applications.
  • Ability to identify problems and propose solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and internal customers.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects in a collaborative and fast-paced environment that is deadline-driven.
  • Familiarity with IRS and other jurisdictional reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of the generally accepted accounting principles [GAAP] and the ability to apply them appropriately within the organization.
  • Knowledge of and ability to create, implement, evaluate, and enhance processes in internal controls.
