Job Summary

The General Manager, MLS NEXT will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of MLS NEXT programs to enhance the quality of competition, talent identification, education, compliance, and club membership.

This role will manage and oversee governance and communication across all MLS NEXT member clubs, including member calls and selected member committees.

The General Manager, MLS NEXT will lead the execution of plans against the five pillars of the MLS NEXT platform, including lead relationships with cross-functional teams who support MLS NEXT.

This position will also lead on legal-related topics, including compliance for governing policies, investigations, and discipline, policy enforcement, and insurance coverage.

The General Manager, MLS NEXT will lead the relationship with Partnership Marketing/Business Development and liaise with partners on the delivery and growth of commercial programs.

This role will also lead MLS NEXT commercial aspects, including marketing, broadcast, events, social, and more.

The General Manager, MLS NEXT will implement and deliver sporting development initiatives, including technical guidance and standards as set forth by both MLS and MLS NEXT Technical Directors.

This position will manage and implement technology and data tools for MLS NEXT with support and input from Technical Directors of both MLS and MLS NEXT.

The General Manager, MLS NEXT will oversee the team within MLS NEXT, including hiring and development of MLS NEXT administrative and operations staff.

This role will manage the hiring and onboarding process, including interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training employees.

The General Manager, MLS NEXT will accomplish team results by communicating job expectations and leading the Performance Management process.

This position will develop personal growth opportunities for employees by providing a challenging, learning environment that incorporates external opportunities to meet with other organizations.

Requirements include a Bachelor's Degree and 12+ years of experience in a leadership role, with responsibilities in strategy, competition management, and technical development.

Relevant working experience in the sports industry is required, as well as demonstrated leadership and management capability.

This role requires a commitment to high-quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance.

The General Manager, MLS NEXT will have experience building sports and entertainment properties and events, as well as being highly organized with excellent project coordination and project management skills.

This position requires resourcefulness, a quick learner, and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

The General Manager, MLS NEXT will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing.

This role requires meticulous attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.

The General Manager, MLS NEXT will have proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

This position requires the ability to travel and work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

The General Manager, MLS NEXT will have knowledge of the Spanish Language (business proficiency) and an understanding of the North American youth soccer and sports landscape.

MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors, including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
