Job Title: Mental Health Practitioner

Avera is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Practitioner to join our team at the Intensive Residential Treatment Facility. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing positive direction and support to residents in our care.

Job Summary:

The Mental Health Practitioner will be responsible for interpreting and enforcing Center policies and procedures, promoting positive communication and working relationships with team members, and attending weekly clinical supervision, staff meetings, and in-services. This role requires a strong commitment to providing quality programming and ensuring the physical, emotional, and medical needs of residents are met.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with residents, social workers, and other members of the treatment team.
  2. Ensure accurate documentation and filing according to agency and program policies.
  3. Adhere to resident's rights policies and incorporate resident's rights into the daily routine.
  4. Assist individuals in arranging necessary appointments and providing transportation when needed.
  5. Advocate for residents to staff, social workers, therapists, and other team members.
  6. Participate actively in leisure/group activities as scheduled and ad hoc.
  7. Assist with cooking meals and serving, passing medications as required, and accessing on-call supervisor as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Minnesota Mental Health Practitioner status obtained through education and/or experience.
  • Holds a master's or other graduate degree in behavioral sciences or related fields.
  • Completed 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral sciences or related fields.
  • Completed 4000 hours of work experience if the person.
  • Completed 2000 hours of work experience AND receives treatment supervision at least once per week until meeting the 4000 hour requirement.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, reach, stoop, and crouch.
  2. Must be able to sweep, mop, shovel, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Supervision Requirements:

  1. Prior to having direct contact with residents, staff must complete the first section of orientation checklist and have a background study submitted to the department.
  2. Prior to working independently, staff must complete the second and third section of orientation checklist, receive background study clearance from the department, and complete 32 hours of on-the-job training/shadowing.
  3. Complete a minimum of 16 training hours annually.
  4. Treatment team meeting participation for every calendar week worked.
  5. Clinical supervision ongoing.
