Position Overview:

IRLI is currently in search of a Staff Counsel. This role, under the guidance of the Director of Litigation, involves managing an independent caseload and overseeing all facets of litigation and pre-litigation processes. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing case strategies and assessments
  • Conducting discovery and ensuring document preservation and collection
  • Drafting and refining legal pleadings and briefs
  • Preparing witnesses for interviews, depositions, and trial
  • Attending hearings, mediations, court conferences, and trials
  • Engaging in appellate briefing and arguments as required

Qualifications:

  • J.D. Degree with admission to the District of Columbia Bar (or eligibility for waiver)
  • While prior litigation experience is advantageous, outstanding recent law school graduates eager to embark on a meaningful career and gain immediate litigation skills are encouraged to apply
  • Self-motivated individual capable of working independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical abilities to address complex issues with a proactive approach
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks, embrace new responsibilities, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in immigration and/or constitutional law is a significant plus, though not required
  • Background in government relations or service within federal or state government is beneficial
  • Dedication to achieving excellence in all endeavors
