Role Summary:

  • The Surgical Technologist II collaborates with the healthcare team and consistently upholds safe practices within the organizational framework. This role embodies the core competencies of UPHS, reflecting its mission and integrated within the professional practice domains.
  • Clinical Judgment & Decision Making: This involves understanding the challenges faced by industry professionals and responding with empathy and involvement.
  • Employee-Client Relationship: The Technologist acknowledges the patient (or their representative) as a vital partner in delivering compassionate and coordinated care, respecting their preferences and values.
  • Clinical Leadership: The Technologist engages in innovative problem-solving and decision-making, fostering a culture of responsiveness and learning.
  • Clinical Scholarship: The Technologist integrates current evidence with clinical expertise and patient preferences to ensure optimal healthcare delivery.
  • The Surgical Technologist II is responsible for providing safe and effective patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse and/or physician throughout the perioperative process. They must demonstrate proficiency in surgical instruments and maintain sterile environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate how practice aligns with the organizational vision and care delivery model.
  • Independently provide patient care while being accountable for assigned patients across various age groups.
  • Exhibit competencies in clinical judgment, employee-client relationships, clinical leadership, and scholarship.
  • Deliver accurate care under supervision during the perioperative experience.
  • Complete all required competencies within specified timelines, ensuring competent care across multiple surgical services.
  • Facilitate patient care continuity appropriate to developmental stages.
  • Contribute to organizational performance improvement through departmental projects.
  • Manage departmental responsibilities and participate in infection control efforts.
  • Complete all mandatory education requirements annually.

Required Credentials:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • Surgical Technologist Certification (Required)
  • Certification from a nationally recognized institution or completion of military training program (Effective 12/29/2020)

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Specialization: 2+ years of recent Surgical Technologist experience; 1+ years in Central Processing Department preferred.
