Job Summary

As a key member of our permitting services team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our permitting process, interacting with customers, and providing administrative support to our departmental personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Service: Interact with customers to service their building department-related needs, providing exceptional customer service and ensuring a positive experience.
  • Permitting Process: Issue and/or track permits through the permitting process, from application acceptance to permit closure, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • File Management: Establish and maintain systems to ensure that all files, letters, reference manuals, field inspection reports, permit files, blueprints, drawings, and other data or material are maintained in an organized fashion.
  • Collaboration: Work with plan examiners and inspectors to develop and ensure consistent processes, promoting a culture of collaboration and excellence.
  • Administrative Support: Provide administrative support to departmental personnel, preparing correspondence, reports, and other documentation, and updating, scanning, and maintaining the department's records and files.
  • Additional Duties: Perform a variety of skilled secretarial functions, including collecting permit fees, filling out daily cash collection sheets, and dropping collected fees in a safe.
Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is desired.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience performing similar duties/tasks.
  • Skills: Possess the ability to positively interact with staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele; good time management, organization, telephone communication skills, attention to detail, and people skills.
Requirements
  • ICC Permit Technician Certification: Must be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Microsoft Office Skills: Excellent Microsoft Office skills and permitting software experience are a must.
