Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Clinical Laboratory Technician, your primary responsibility will be to collect blood and other specimen samples from patients. You will ensure that all samples are accurately labeled and transported to the laboratory for analysis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Collect various specimens from patients, ensuring accuracy and adherence to protocols.
  2. Demonstrate strong technical and clinical skills to address daily operational challenges.
  3. Maintain near visual acuity for precise reading of instructions and examination of samples.
  4. Perform waived testing under appropriate guidance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Verify patient identity by cross-referencing information on requisition forms with patient identification.
  2. Accurately draw blood using established procedures, aiming for first-attempt success.
  3. Ensure proper labeling of specimens with essential patient information.
  4. Document all collection activities accurately in the Phlebotomy Log.
  5. Adhere to safety protocols and report any hazards to supervisory staff.
  6. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the phlebotomy area and equipment.
  7. Assist colleagues with laboratory tasks as needed, promoting teamwork.
  8. Respond to changes in workload and prioritize tasks effectively.
  9. Provide clear instructions to patients regarding specimen collection procedures.
  10. Perform additional duties as required to support laboratory operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Completion of a formal phlebotomy training program with both theoretical and practical components.
  3. Prior experience in a phlebotomy role is preferred.
  4. Eligibility for certification in phlebotomy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Ability to remain mobile and/or seated for extended periods.
  2. Manual dexterity for operating laboratory equipment and computers.
  3. Engagement in various physical activities, including lifting and bending.
  4. Ability to lift items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  5. Corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges are required.
  6. Willingness to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  7. Exposure to common hospital and laboratory conditions.
