Position Overview
This role involves a range of routine and specialized public safety tasks related to the management and supervision of incarcerated individuals.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitates the booking process for detainees under the guidance of law enforcement personnel.
- Conducts fingerprinting and photographic documentation of each detainee as directed.
- Oversees daily living activities of detainees, ensuring hygiene, distribution of clean clothing, and opportunities for personal care, while maintaining sanitary conditions.
- Prepares and serves meals to detainees, ensuring nutritional needs are met at scheduled times and managing food inventory effectively.
- Prepares detainees for court appearances, transfers to other facilities, and releases to external agencies.
- Ensures appropriate medical care by administering prescribed medications, responding to medical emergencies, and documenting incidents accurately.
- Handles inquiries regarding detainees, providing essential information to authorized individuals such as legal representatives and family members.
- Manages visitation processes during designated hours.
- Responsible for the safekeeping of detainee personal belongings.
- Issues appropriate uniforms to detainees, ensuring compliance with departmental policies. Correctional Officers are prohibited from conducting strip searches.
- Coordinates court appearances with judicial staff to ensure timely attendance of detainees.
- Facilitates the release process for detainees.
- Manages all bonding procedures, including documentation and proper handling of cash bonds.
- Conducts regular inspections of holding areas, documenting findings as required.
- Performs necessary data entry and record-keeping tasks.
- Submits routine reports to supervisory personnel regarding shift activities.
- Undertakes additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and residents of Missouri at the time of appointment; must have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions; must be at least 21 years old at the time of appointment; must possess a high school diploma or GED, with prior experience in corrections preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
Must hold a valid driver's license.
