We are currently seeking a skilled professional for the role of Hybrid Assembly and Microelectronics Packaging Engineer within our Advanced Electrical Fabrication Group.

This position offers a unique chance to channel your enthusiasm for microelectronics packaging into advanced prototypes and exclusive systems that will enhance scientific understanding, protect national security, and push the boundaries of space technology.

As a Hybrid Assembly & Microelectronics Packaging Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Advancing the development and fabrication of hardware solutions that address significant challenges impacting national security, military readiness, space exploration, and fundamental scientific research.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to design microelectronic and hybrid assemblies tailored to their specifications.
  • Effectively communicating issues and concerns throughout the assembly process with partners, engineers, technicians, and supervisors.
  • Utilizing design software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks to create detailed drawings of assemblies, fixtures, and electrical test setups.
  • Engaging in hands-on microelectronics and hybrid assembly tasks, particularly with new processes or systems.
  • Training and guiding engineers and technicians on assembly processes.
  • Working closely with manufacturing engineering teams to develop and manage electronics assembly work orders using APL's work order system.
  • Monitoring and adjusting plans as builds progress, assisting with scheduling, and ensuring timely procurement of materials.
  • Special Working Conditions: Approximately 50% of work conducted in a cleanroom environment.
Qualifications

You will meet our minimum qualifications if you possess:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in hybrid/microelectronic packaging.
  • In-depth knowledge of microelectronics assembly and packaging technologies.
  • Exceptional hands-on skills with standard microelectronics packaging tools and techniques.
  • Experience in creating technical drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar design software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.
  • The capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions.
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • A proactive approach to troubleshooting issues to minimize disruptions in the assembly process.
  • Manual dexterity for handling small components and the ability to stand for extended periods.
  • A basic understanding of electrical circuits and their components.
  • The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Top Secret level security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.

You will exceed our minimum requirements if you have:

  • A Master's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Over 10 years of experience in hybrid/microelectronic packaging.
  • A solid understanding of Military and NASA Standards for hybrid microcircuits.
  • Experience in Heterogeneous Integration.
  • The ability to design packages, substrates, interposers, fixtures, and printed wiring boards.
  • Experience in designing simple electrical test fixtures.
  • Customer service experience.
