Role Summary:
As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will be an essential support to our physicians. You will receive cross-training to handle a variety of administrative and clinical responsibilities. These tasks encompass preparing patients for examinations, organizing examination rooms, conducting basic vision screenings, administering eye medications, maintaining ophthalmic instruments, and assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcome patients, collect medical histories, and document findings accurately.
- Conduct a comprehensive array of pre-examination and advanced diagnostic assessments (e.g., OCT, Fundus photography, visual field testing).
- Provide patient education regarding medications and pre/post-operative care as instructed by the physician.
- Assist with contact lens fittings and provide care instructions.
- Perform refractometry to identify refractive errors and support minor surgical procedures.
- Manage inventory of ophthalmic supplies and instruments effectively.
- Support the upkeep and cleaning of clinical equipment.
- Follow all safety protocols diligently.
- Engage in ongoing education to uphold best practices.
- Process prescription refills with appropriate authorization.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and listening communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational abilities.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends.
- Capability to stand for extended periods.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician Assistant or equivalent specialized ophthalmic experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) is required or must be completed within 45 days of hire.
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification is preferred or must be pursued within twelve (12) months of hire and completed within two (2) years.
- Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) is advantageous.
Work Schedule:
- Rotating schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends.
Compensation:
- $24.50/hr
