Job Overview

The Estimator role is crucial for the accurate preparation of project cost assessments.

In this capacity, you will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with the Estimating Manager to evaluate potential business ventures and determine the necessary team members to effectively complete the cost estimate.
  • Ensuring timely requests for any required bid bonds, securing appropriate subcontractor support for all scopes of work, and preparing essential documentation for proposal submission.
  • Conducting thorough reviews of all estimates before submission to confirm that every scope of work is included and that all bid documents are attached.
  • Creating a detailed scheduling plan for each project in conjunction with the Project Manager.
  • Managing the development of a proposal timeline for each estimate, as necessary.
  • Assisting in the estimation of change orders when required.
  • Facilitating coordination among Cost/Estimating Management, Schedule Management, and Project Management Teams.
  • Taking ownership of the project from the decision to pursue through to contract award.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Previous experience in construction management.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills with customers and stakeholders.

Note: Customers and stakeholders include Owners, Architects, Engineers, Subcontractors, Suppliers, Public Officials, and any other entities associated with the project.

  • A proven track record of successful project management, including cost control, customer service, quality assurance, safety, and adherence to schedules.
  • A flexible work ethic as required by the job.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, MS Project, Primavera, OnScreen Takeoff, SmartBid, or similar bid management software.

Expectations for this position include:

  • Managing estimates totaling $M annually.
  • Reliability in meeting attendance and managing personal and team schedules.
  • Active participation in the analysis, implementation, and maintenance of company policies and procedures.
  • Proactively seeking additional responsibilities and volunteering for extra assignments when necessary.
  • Effectively balancing time management with cost efficiency in job responsibilities.
  • Continuous improvement in job knowledge and the ability to learn and apply new skills.
  • Making timely and informed decisions while keeping relevant parties updated throughout the decision-making process.
  • Identifying issues, gathering and analyzing information skillfully, and consulting with involved entities.
  • Regularly reviewing project progress to ensure requirements are met and addressing issues early in the project lifecycle.
  • Organizing and prioritizing tasks while utilizing effective time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Exhibiting strong verbal and written communication skills to engage with all levels of employees, management, and external partners.
  • Educating staff on company policies and procedures, clarifying employee requirements and the rationale behind policies.
  • Achieving established goals while demonstrating accuracy and thoroughness to ensure high-quality work.

You should be physically capable of:

  • Using a computer, telephone, and other standard business equipment.
  • Working extended hours and adapting to rapidly changing priorities to meet project objectives.
  • Participating in meetings.
  • Traveling on short notice as needed.
