Job Summary:
In this role, you will operate and maintain boiler systems and steam/hot water systems that provide heat or power for potato processing and related equipment within the facility, ensuring compliance with state regulations, accepted engineering practices, and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintain a safe and organized work environment while on company premises.
2. Ignite gas or oil burners under the supervision of the Boiler Chief.
3. Monitor pressure, temperature, and draft indicators to confirm the proper functioning of automatic combustion control systems, feed water regulators, and burners.
4. Adjust valves and controls to regulate fuel feed, draft openings, water levels, and steam pressure.5. Inspect boiler and auxiliary equipment to identify malfunctions.
6. Perform repairs, including replacing burners and securing pipes and fittings as needed.
7. Analyze and treat boiler feed water.
8. Keep a detailed log of meter readings and document data such as water test results and fuel consumption.
9. Communicate operational needs with production and maintenance teams to ensure safety standards are upheld.10. Comply with all company policies, work rules, and procedures.
11. Be prepared to wear SCBA and HazMat gear as required.
12. Occasionally work overtime as necessary.
13. Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Must possess or be able to obtain a State of Minnesota, Department of Labor and Industry, 1-B Boiler License Classification for Boiler III within 90 days.
2. Must possess or be able to obtain a State of Minnesota, Department of Labor and Industry, 2-B Boiler License Classification for Boiler II within 90 days.
3. Demonstrated ability to perform essential job functions safely and responsibly under the direct supervision of the Boiler Chief, with the capacity to pass required testing.
Language Proficiency:
Ability to read, write, and interpret safety regulations, operational and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Capable of composing routine reports and correspondence and effectively communicating with supervisors and colleagues.
Mathematical Skills:
Proficient in basic arithmetic operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, utilizing whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages accurately.
Physical Requirements:
1. Ability to perform physical tasks with proper body mechanics.
2. Frequent standing and walking.
3. Regular use of hands and arms.
4. Ability to lift and carry weights of up to 50 lbs.
5. Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
6. Frequent bending and twisting.
7. Climbing stairs and ladders regularly.
8. Must have excellent color vision.
Work Environment:
Exposure to moving machinery, temperature and humidity extremes, fumes, airborne particles, and high noise levels. Hearing protection is provided and required.
