About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team in the Division of Medical-Clinical Services, Public Health Laboratory in Decatur, GA. As a Medical Technologist, you will play a critical role in analyzing newborn screening dried blood spot specimens for various genetic and metabolic conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze newborn screening dried blood spot specimens for various genetic and metabolic conditions, including Cystic Fibrosis, Congenital Hypothyroidism, Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, and Sickle Cell Disease.
  • Test specimens using a variety of techniques, including fluorescent immunoassays, tandem mass spectrometry (MSMS), high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC), real-time PCR and enzyme assays.
  • Perform and document all required maintenance on instruments and equipment.
  • Perform quality assurance duties in accordance with procedures in the Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) Manuals, as specified by state and federal licensure laws.
  • Participate in special project assignments, such as the evaluation and validation of assays for new disorders or second-tier screening.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in a related science area from an accredited college or university, certification as a Medical Technologist, MT (ASCP), and three (3) years of job-related science experience; or Associate degree and two (2) years of experience at the lower level Medical/Clinical Specialist 2 (LSP011) or equivalent position.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related science area from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in a clinical laboratory and certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) by a nationally accredited certifying agency such as American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), the American Association of Bioanalysts (ABB), or another agency approved by the Department.
