Key Responsibilities

  • Drug Distribution and Control
    • Interpret and process patient medication orders accurately and efficiently.
    • Maintain accurate dispensing records, including computer medication profiles, investigational drugs, and controlled substances.
    • Perform dose checking and medication profile review upon receipt of any medication request from a clinician.
    • Interpret and understand detailed requirements of drug therapy protocols and ensure orders generated are consistent with protocol requirements.
    • Use knowledge of aseptic techniques and processes to prepare medications and supervise the aseptic preparation of compounded sterile products.
    • Direct technicians in the preparation of medications, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness.
    • Deliver medications to appropriate patient care areas for administration to patients in a timely manner.
  • Clinical and Professional Service
    • Provide accurate drug information as necessary and upon request to optimize patient care.
    • Document drug information and other relevant clinical activities in the information system consistently with defined policy.
    • Communicate effectively with colleagues and patients to foster quality service and care.
    • Perform patient education and counseling in a manner consistent with defined department expectations.
    • Participate in quality improvement efforts and drug utilization evaluation programs as assigned.
    • Submit medication event reports to the electronic event reporting system (EERS) and adverse drug reaction reports to Power chart.
  • Research Program Support
    • Contribute to ongoing departmental and institutional research programs and improvement efforts as requested.
    • Monitor protocol compliance for all patients, ensuring appropriate protocol enrollment and dosing and scheduling accuracy.
    • Document significant protocol deviations and variances and all other significant interventions in the provision of patient care.
    • Provide optimal drug distribution services for protocol patients.
    • Offer suggestions for improvements in drug delivery policies and procedures to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Departmental and Institutional Responsibilities
    • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
    • Serve on selected departmental and institutional committees as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council of Pharmacy Education and eligible for pharmacy licensure in Tennessee.
  • Hospital pharmacy practice experience or a Doctor of Pharmacy degree preferred.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $89.50 per hour for the role of Clinical Staff Pharmacist - Night Shift (7 on/7 off).
