Job Title: Assistant General Manager

The Assistant General Manager plays a crucial role in the success of our restaurant, Backyard Grill & Catering. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the restaurant, ensuring that all aspects of the business run smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operations Management: Manage the daily operations of the restaurant, including employee selection, development, and performance.
  • Inventory and Purchasing: Oversee the inventory and ordering of food and supplies, ensuring that we have the necessary resources to meet customer demand.
  • Financial Management: Adhere to company standards and service levels to increase sales and minimize costs, including food, beverage, supply, utility, and labor costs.
  • Food Safety and Planning: Enforce sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness, and maintenance of kitchen and dining areas, ensuring compliance with safety/sanitation standards, federal/state/local laws, and ordinances.
  • Guest Service: Ensure positive guest service in all areas, responding to complaints and taking appropriate actions to turn dissatisfied guests into return guests.
  • Personnel Management: Provide direction to employees regarding operational and procedural issues, interview hourly employees, direct hiring, supervision, development, and termination when necessary.
Requirements:
  • Education and Experience: A combination of practical experience and education will be considered as an alternative.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of computers (MS Word, Excel), proficient in restaurant functions, including food planning and preparation, purchasing, sanitation, security, company policies and procedures, personnel management, recordkeeping, and preparation of reports.
  • Personal Qualities: Self-discipline, initiative, leadership ability, and outgoing personality, with good communication skills for dealing with diverse staff.
Working Conditions:

The Assistant General Manager will work in a fast-paced restaurant environment, with prolonged standing, bending, stooping, twisting, lifting products and supplies weighing 45 pounds, and repetitive hand and wrist motion. The typical work week is 50 hours, with opportunities for overtime.

Vacation accrues at 0.5 days per month (6 days per year), with paid holidays including Easter day, Labor Day, Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day (7 days per year). Benefits include a competitive salary base, bonus, and annual reviews.
