Position Overview

The Culinary Service Associate role is situated within the Nutrition & Food Service department at the Veterans Health Administration. This is a Part-Time position.

Eligibility:

Key Responsibilities:

The Culinary Service Associate position is currently eligible for a Critical Skills Incentive (CSI). Candidates may qualify for a lump sum CSI based on their appointment date.

Primary duties include but are not limited to:
  • Preparing cafeteria lines, steam tables, and dining areas with both hot and cold food selections.
  • Serving food in a cafeteria-style setting, ensuring uniform portions for customers and patients.
  • Cleaning and organizing the assigned area post-meal service and returning food items to the kitchen.
  • Setting up dining tables for service, placing food and beverages, and replenishing supplies as needed.
  • Delivering meal trays to patients at their bedsides.
  • Brewing coffee and preparing fresh salads and sandwiches in bulk.
  • Engaging in various kitchen functions such as food preparation, dishwashing, and inventory management.
  • Performing heavy-duty cleaning tasks in food service areas.
  • Managing food waste and maintaining cleanliness in the dishwashing area.
  • Assisting with the unloading of delivery trucks and proper storage of sanitized dishes.
  • Completing other assigned tasks as required.
Work Schedule: Part-Time, with hours determined by facility needs.

Position Description: Culinary Service Associate - Critical Skills Incentive Authorized.

Incentives: Recruitment incentives may be available for highly qualified candidates.

Requirements:

Applicants must meet specific conditions of employment, including U.S. Citizenship and potential background checks.

Qualifications:

Experience is not strictly required, but candidates must demonstrate relevant training or experience that indicates their ability to perform the duties of this position.

Physical Requirements:

The role may require light to moderate physical effort, including lifting and moving items weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted. The work environment includes exposure to high temperatures and humidity, as well as potential hazards associated with kitchen operations.
