About the Role

Alera Group is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Business Development Representative to join their Employee Benefits team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for managing and servicing an assigned book of business while assisting in the growth of this book of business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Business Development: Gather data needed to market medical plans, obtain quotes, and prepare spreadsheet analysis.
  • Liaison with Carrier Partners: Act as a liaison with our carrier partners to ensure the accuracy of carrier contracts.
  • Product Knowledge: Become proficient in all plans and products in the assigned book of business and be an internal resource.
  • Sales Presentations: Develop, modify, and finalize professional sales presentations, written communications, and other documents.
  • Client Management: Partner with other teams to ensure client needs are met and that actions are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Renewal Management: Manage communications from clients regarding renewal inquiries.
  • Insurance Data Verification: Coordinate with employers, employees, and insurance carriers to verify insurance-related data.
  • Client Engagement: Engage clients and prospects in gathering and preparing renewal information.
  • Negotiation: Negotiate, on behalf of the clients, with carriers and other service providers.
  • Cross-Selling Opportunities: Identify and assist in developing cross-selling opportunities.
  • Policy Reviews: Perform insurance policy, coverage, and exposure reviews.
  • Day-to-Day Service: Handle day-to-day service requests (sensitive administrative tasks).
  • Open Enrollment Meetings: Conduct open enrollment meetings.
  • Goal Setting: Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish assigned work.
  • Industry Knowledge: Keep up-to-date on industry developments and practices.
  • Professional Development: Apply and maintain a strong working knowledge of plan designs and industry trends.
Requirements
  • State Life and Health License: State Life and Health Licensed or obtain within 3 months of employment.
  • Benefits Knowledge: Thorough understanding of benefits and benefits processing (medical, dental, vision, LTD, STD, Life, FSA, HSA, HRA, COBRA, etc.).
  • Compliance Knowledge: Working knowledge of State and Federal Compliance laws.
  • Technical Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications, specifically MS Office suite.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience: 3 or more years of client coordination and/or claims management experience in a broker or carrier organization.
  • Remote Schedule: Remote schedule available.
  • Travel: Able and willing to travel at least 25% of the time for networking, prospecting, and to client locations and industry events.
