Senior Network Engineer with Expertise in Advanced Networking

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Network Engineer to join our team at the University of Washington. As a key member of our network design and architecture group, you will play a critical role in designing, deploying, and supporting advanced large-scale networks.

As a successful candidate, you will possess seven or more years of experience in architecting, designing, deploying, and supporting high-volume networks in campus and metro environments. You will also have expertise in developing datacenter and cloud strategies, as well as suitable network architectures.

The ideal candidate will be driven to understand our community's needs, translate for others, and ask questions like "What are their needs?" and "What are they trying to do?" You will believe in open engagement, clear communication, trust, and respect as foundations for effective partnerships.

We are offering an estimated salary range of $120,000 - $150,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

Job Description

Primary Roles:

  1. Network Architecture and Design: Construct a strong framework that defines strategic integration of automation and virtualization within UW's and UW's partner networks. Clearly document architectures and designs.
  2. Network Services: Oversee and provide direction on evaluating and testing of new technologies. Engage with peers in higher education, NRENs, and industry to track results of others' implementation of modern network constructs.
  3. Project Lead: The network engineer will delegate, oversee, and substantially contribute to the preparation and submission of Business Cases for high-profile, strategic Wired or Wireless Networks projects.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  2. Seven or more years of experience architecting, designing, deploying, and supporting advanced, large-scale, high-volume networks.
  3. Experience as a lead network engineer in a major national or international production network environment.
  4. Strong expertise with a variety of Network Management systems and approaches.
  5. Strong expertise with a variety of Datacenter and Cloud constructs as they relate to network infrastructure requirements.
