Thermal Energy Facility Technician

Overview:

Become a vital member of the Southern Utah University team as a Thermal Energy Facility Technician. In this role, you will oversee the secure operation and upkeep of the thermal energy facility and associated systems across the university's premises. Your responsibilities will encompass boiler management, system monitoring, maintenance, cleaning, and ensuring optimal performance of all campus equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and service campus boilers and associated apparatus within the thermal energy facility and other locations.
  • Conduct tests and maintain appropriate boiler water treatment across all systems.
  • Guide and mentor student workers in the operation of the thermal energy facility.
  • Address emergency calls outside of standard working hours.
  • Engage in repairs, renovations, and modifications related to the thermal energy facility.
  • Document maintenance activities to maintain a thorough history of facility operations.
  • Effectively communicate with Facilities Management personnel regarding essential information.
  • Uphold high standards of cleanliness and workmanship within the facility.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
  • Perform additional assigned tasks as necessary.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; higher education is advantageous.
  • Basic computer proficiency is necessary.
  • Completion of a boiler operator certification course within six months of employment.
  • Mechanical skills and a valid driver's license are required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of three years in boiler operation and HVAC systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic control systems is desirable.
  • Training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or boiler systems certification is a plus.

Work Environment:

  • Shift work is required for continuous operation.
  • Work will be conducted indoors and outdoors under varying conditions.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at elevated heights is necessary.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is essential to meet university demands.
  • Capability to work in extreme temperatures is required.
  • Travel using university vehicles may be necessary.
