Culinary Specialist for Senior Care

Oaks Senior Living is in search of a dedicated and experienced Culinary Specialist who is passionate about serving the elderly community. Role Responsibilities:
The Culinary Specialist will oversee the preparation, presentation, and management of meals in accordance with state and federal guidelines, as well as the dietary program set forth by Oaks Senior Living. Responsibilities will also include managing inventory, ensuring proper food storage, and adhering to budgetary constraints. Maintaining a clean and sanitized kitchen and dining area in line with company policies is essential. Additionally, the Culinary Specialist will assist the Food Service Director during periods of staff shortages or absences.
Qualifications:
- Experience in large-scale meal preparation
- Preferred certification in culinary arts or food service
- Genuine interest in working with senior citizens
- Proficient in English
- Compassionate and friendly demeanor towards older adults
- Minimum age of 18 with a clear background check
- Ability to pass a physical examination and drug test
- Capability to respond effectively in emergency situations
Main Duties:
Food and Inventory Oversight
- Assess and communicate food and supply requirements for upcoming menus
- Assist with product handling and storage processes
- Follow budgetary guidelines
Culinary Preparation and Service
- Prepare and cook meals adhering to nutritional guidelines and dietary needs
- Ensure quality and variety in meals, snacks, and special dietary requirements
- Present food in an appealing manner
- Assist residents during meal times, including providing necessary adaptive equipment
- Coordinate food service for special occasions
- Encourage resident involvement in Food Service Committee discussions
- Notify the Food Service Director of any kitchen equipment concerns
Compliance and Hygiene Standards
- Ensure adherence to health department regulations and company policies
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen
- Properly store and handle food in accordance with infection control protocols
- Keep CPR and First Aid certifications current
Knowledge Requirements:
- Familiarity with state food handling and kitchen regulations
- Understanding of OSHA standards
- Knowledge of fire safety procedures
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely
Reports to: Food Service Director
Physical Requirements:
To meet job expectations, the employee must be capable of performing essential physical tasks for extended periods while adhering to safety protocols. During an average shift, the employee will:
- Stand or walk for up to eight hours daily
- Sit for up to two hours daily
- Frequently lift items weighing up to 30 pounds
- Carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Engage in frequent kneeling, bending, and reaching
