The Rotary Wing Aircraft Technician I is responsible for diagnosing issues in aircraft structures, landing gear, flight surfaces, and control systems, as well as anti-icing, pneudraulic systems, engines, auxiliary power units, and ventilation and heating systems.
+ Conducts repairs, replacements, and overhauls of aircraft structures, including wings and fuselage, along with functional components such as rigging, surface controls, and hydraulic units, utilizing hand tools, power tools, and machinery like shears, sheet metal brakes, welding apparatus, rivet guns, and drills.
+ Interprets maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, and engineering specifications to assess the feasibility and methods for repairing or replacing defective components.
+ Executes various inspections including 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, and periodic checks, evaluates reciprocating engines for issues like cracked cylinders and oil leaks, and listens to operating engines to identify malfunctions such as sticking or burnt valves, while also inspecting jet engines for cracks, corrosion, and other forms of damage.
+ Analyzes jet engine turbine blades for signs of cracks, distortion, and corrosion, and tests engine functionality using diagnostic equipment like ignition analyzers, compression checkers, and jet calibration testers to pinpoint malfunctions.
+ Responsibilities include replacing or repairing worn or damaged components such as carburetors, alternators, and fuel pumps, as well as removing engines from aircraft using hoists, disassembling parts for inspection, and reassembling engines post-repair.
+ Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories, performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, and carries out various tasks to service aircraft, including flushing crankcases and checking brakes.
+ Oversees the jacking and towing of aircraft, documents maintenance activities, and ensures satisfactory completion of work. May also perform minor repairs at line stations to maintain aircraft safety and may specialize in structural, precision, and functional repairs or engine maintenance.
Minimum Requirements
+ A valid and up-to-date A&P license is required.
+ In the absence of an A&P license, candidates must possess three (3) years of aviation maintenance experience, including two (2) years with rotary wing aircraft and two (2) years on the specific MDS.
+ All experience must be within the last six (6) years.
+ Candidates should be trained to Military Occupational Specialty or Original Equipment Manufacturer Maintenance course standards for the airframe they will maintain.
+ Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization, with U.S. citizenship required for such credentials.
+ Tools are Required; candidates must possess their own shadowed/etched tools and toolbox.
Knowledge and Skills
+ Strong communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to troubleshoot entire aircraft systems.
+ Proficient understanding of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and associated systems principles necessary for job tasks.
+ Familiarity with Quality Control, Production, and Supply procedures relevant to job assignments.
+ Competence in using a variety of hand tools and measuring devices, as well as diagnostic equipment specific to aircraft models.
+ Ability to determine when faulty systems can be repaired or require replacement parts, and the extent of necessary repairs.
+ Skilled in reading, applying, and interpreting technical data.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
+ Must be capable of climbing, standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and working in tiring or uncomfortable positions.
+ Frequently lift parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds, with most heavy lifting aided by mechanical devices.
+ Work may occur in maintenance hangars or outdoor environments, and candidates may need to respond to various operational circumstances, including extreme weather.
+ Exposure to noise from turbine and jet engines, fumes, airborne particles, electrical shock hazards, and moving mechanical parts is possible.
