We are seeking a highly skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist to join our team at the Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Vision Impaired. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in orientation and mobility principles, adjustment to blindness concepts, and the rehabilitation process.
Key Responsibilities- Provide orientation and mobility assessment and instruction to blind and visually impaired individuals to enable them to travel independently and safely.
- Develop and implement individualized programs to meet the unique needs of each client.
- Collaborate with other professionals to ensure comprehensive support for clients.
- Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
- Master's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Certification in orientation and mobility or eligibility to sit for the exam within 6 months of hire.
- Strong knowledge of orientation and mobility principles, adjustment to blindness concepts, and the rehabilitation process.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
