About the Role

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our team in the Upper Midwest Region. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for leading a multi-discipline team to develop designs of electrical substations to support the safe and reliable delivery of electricity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop innovative project approaches to optimize safety, schedule, and profitability.
  • Participate in the development of project schedules, scopes, budgets, staffing plans, and construction plans.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers in their technical and professional development.
  • Perform quality control reviews for other engineers and designers.
  • Develop innovative processes, tools, and design solutions.
  • Lead/oversee site grading and stormwater management designs.
  • Lead/oversee the development of permitting documentation.
  • Provide support for clients during permitting and construction.
  • Perform field inspections and compliance documentation.
  • Lead a team of multi-discipline professionals to ensure project success.
  • Present designs and proposals to clients, permitting authorities, public interest groups, etc.
  • Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, permitting documents, which may include model outputs, exhibits, and correspondence.
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling with the ability to adapt to various site conditions.
  • Correspond with clients, contractors, and vendors.
  • Lead project proposal efforts.
  • Advance into leadership roles.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Seven (7) years of civil engineering or environmental engineering experience, consulting preferred. Master of Science degree in civil or environmental engineering may be substituted for one (1) year experience.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a dynamic, quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Strong knowledge in standard civil engineering techniques and principles to support various submittals associated with design, permitting, and client requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., hydraulic and hydrologic analysis programs, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, Pondpack, StormCAD, HY-8, TR-20, Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
