The DLR Institute of Quantum Technologies (DLR-QT) focuses on the development of quantum metrology instruments suitable for space missions. We aim to create compact, reliable, and robust instruments that will enable groundbreaking discoveries.

About the Role

We seek an experienced Advanced Optics Engineer to design, implement, and characterize high-precision laser optical experiments. Your expertise will be crucial in developing innovative solutions for our quantum metrology instruments.

You will work closely with our interdisciplinary team, comprising experts from physics, engineering, and IT backgrounds. Together, we will strive to achieve outstanding results that contribute to the advancement of quantum technology research and applications.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement high-precision laser optical experiments for quantum metrology instruments
  • Characterize and document experimental setups
  • Support the team in the implementation of an iodine-based frequency reference for use on the ISS
  • Publish papers and scientific contributions, presenting them at conferences and congresses
Requirements
  • Completed scientific university degree (Master's/diploma university) in natural sciences or engineering
  • PhD in experimental physics or engineering sciences (desired)
  • Knowledge of CAD and FEM software (SOLIDWORKS, Ansys, COMSOL)
  • Experience in the development of optical metrology systems and ideally in optical technologies for space applications
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team
