Job Summary

The Niles Township High School District is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Paraeducator for Special Education to join our team. As a Paraeducator, you will play a vital role in supporting the instructional program and providing individualized support to students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the supervision, care, and instruction of students with special needs in the classroom or community setting.
  • Implement plans for instruction, monitor student behavior, and provide clerical support to teachers and staff.
  • Communicate with supervising instructional staff, health care professionals, and other support personnel to ensure effective implementation of IEP objectives.
  • Escort students safely and efficiently to ensure their well-being.
  • Implement research-based interventions and administer progress monitoring to students who require academic or enrichment remediation.
  • Intervene in potential conflicts using appropriate physical and/or therapeutic approaches to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Maintain instructional materials and records to ensure their availability and accuracy.
  • Monitor students' daily schedules and behavior plans to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Perform general clerical functions to support teachers in implementing curriculum and teaching methodologies.
  • Provide time-limited class supervision to ensure a safe and positive learning environment when the teacher is attending to individual student needs.
  • Provide instruction to students in individual and group activities to reinforce instructional objectives and implement IEP plans.
  • Supervise individual and/or groups of students in various settings to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
Requirements
  • Minimum Qualifications: SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices, operating standard office equipment, preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry, read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others.
  • Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: instructional procedures and practices, age-appropriate student activities, safety practices and procedures, conflict resolution, and stages of child development/behavior.
  • ABILITY is required to schedule activities, gather and/or collate data, and use job-related equipment.
  • Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances, work with data utilizing defined and similar processes, and operate equipment using standardized methods.
  • Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals, work with similar types of data, and utilize a variety of job-related equipment.
Working Conditions

The Paraeducator for Special Education will work in a fast-paced educational environment, interacting with students, teachers, and other support staff. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team setting.

The salary for this position is $20/hour, starting rate Fiscal Year 2024.
