Job Title: Safety Specialist

St. Joseph's Hospital is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Behavioral Health department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients.

Job Summary:

The Safety Specialist will be responsible for delivering direct patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. This includes performing tasks that do not require nursing judgments or administration of medications, such as assisting patients with ADLs, obtaining vital signs, and completing 15-minute safety checks.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver direct patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team
  • Perform tasks that do not require nursing judgments or administration of medications
  • Assist patients with ADLs as needed
  • Obtain vital signs
  • Complete 15-minute safety checks
  • Ensure unit is properly stocked and clean
  • Monitor patients and visitors to ensure safety
  • Perform tasks delegated by the assigned RN, including phlebotomy draws, obtaining EKGs, and completing blood glucose testing
  • Assist with patient care and transfer utilizing appropriate assistive devices
  • Administrative tasks as needed
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years healthcare-related work experience, customer service, and strong communication skills preferred
  • Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise
  • Completes population-specific competency annually on populations served as identified in scope of care and service
Work Environment and Hazards:

Office/Clinical Setting. Exposure Class I.

Physical Demands:

Heavy work (Over 50lbs): requires standing, lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying for long periods of time. Must have the visual and auditory acuity adequate to perform observations and patient care.

Pay Range: $19.00 - $25.90

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
