The Role

We're seeking a highly motivated patent attorney to join our legal team. You'll play a key role in managing and prosecuting our patent portfolio, ensuring the protection of our innovations and supporting our strategic business objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and prosecute a diverse portfolio of patents, including drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications domestically and internationally.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to understand technologies and harvest strategic inventions.
  • Provide training and education to internal teams on IP issues and patent filing processes.
  • Develop a deep understanding of AMD's technologies.
  • Advise and educate the company on complex IP legal issues.
  • Provide guidance on patent-related matters, including patentability assessments, IP strategy, portfolio management, and enforcement.
  • Assist in IP due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions.
Requirements
  • Strong experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in hardware and software technologies, such as semiconductor technologies, digital circuitry, processors, memory solutions, artificial intelligence/machine learning, wired/wireless communication, and other hardware/software solutions and platforms.
  • Experience in the computer and semiconductor industry is a plus.
  • Experience with foreign patents and applications, IP analysis, IP strategy, validity, infringement desirable.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
Academic Credentials
  • BS in Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering or related fields.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with admission to a state bar.
  • Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Location

San Jose, CA (Hybrid schedule – 3 days on-site per week required). Local candidates preferred. No relocation assistance available.
