ROLE SUMMARY:
This role necessitates a California licensed Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Specialist in Microbiology, tasked with the processing, examination, and reporting of specimens. The individual will also be responsible for data management, statistical evaluation, and providing training in advanced methodologies and software applications related to bioinformatics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive and manage specimens in accordance with departmental protocols.
- Support administrative tasks such as ordering supplies and maintaining inventory.
- Generate, interpret, and accurately report test findings.
- Identify and rectify issues impacting test outcomes.
- Communicate relevant section information and concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Conduct maintenance on instruments and troubleshoot methods.
- Validate new testing methodologies.
- Utilize PCR and other amplification technologies effectively.
- Execute molecular diagnostic procedures, including PCR and gene sequencing.
- Perform rapid immunological and molecular testing.
- Maintain comprehensive records, files, and data organization.
- Investigate the performance of new assays and manage CAP surveys.
- Assist in the acquisition and testing of clinical trial samples.
- Oversee the maintenance of a specimen biobank.
- Contribute to the upkeep of effective Quality Assurance/Quality Control programs.
- Adhere to established laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor's degree is mandatory.
- National certification by ASCP is preferred.
- Specialization in Molecular Diagnostics or Medical Technologist is advantageous.
- A California State CLS License is required.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
- Preferred one year of relevant job experience.
- Proficiency in computer applications is essential.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Body Positions: Capable of sitting and standing.
- Body Movements: Requires dexterity in arms and hands.
- Body Senses: Must possess close and distant vision, color perception, and hearing abilities.
- Strength: Ability to lift and transport items weighing up to 25 pounds.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
