Building Compliance Inspector

4LEAF, Inc. is a professional services organization specializing in plan review, project oversight, and on-demand inspection services for municipal Building and Public Works Departments across the United States.

We are currently seeking skilled building inspectors in the Monterey area of California. Candidates should possess the qualifications necessary to conduct technical building inspections, ensuring adherence to building codes, regulations, and ordinances. A minimum of five years of industry experience is preferred, and certification through ICC is required. Additional certifications such as DSA, OSHPD, and CASp are highly valued.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections of new constructions, expansions, and modifications of existing structures to verify compliance with the latest editions of the International Building Code;
  • Effectively communicate complex building issues to the public, contractors, designers, and property owners, focusing on life/safety regulations;
  • Identify and resolve intricate problems by consulting with developers, engineers, architects, property owners, and contractors regarding code requirements and alternatives;
  • Field inquiries related to building requirements;
  • Perform independent assessments during the inspection process;
  • Advise Planning, Engineering, and/or Code Enforcement personnel on building-related matters;
  • Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret various codes while applying sound judgment in enforcement;
  • Draft clear and comprehensive correction notices and inspection reports, along with other related tasks as assigned;
  • Analyze, interpret, and accurately review building plans, specifications, and codes;
  • Enforce codes impartially and with good judgment;
  • Utilize technical knowledge of building trades;
  • Adhere to OSHA standards while performing duties.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum certifications required: B2, M2, E2, P2, and Commercial Combo.
  • Residential certifications are preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and ordinances related to building construction, including State Energy and Accessibility regulations.
  • Familiarity with accepted safety standards, testing procedures, and construction methods.
  • Understanding of principles and techniques associated with building inspection work.
  • Basic knowledge of the plan checking process.
  • Proficiency in computer skills is desirable.

Candidates must possess:

  • The ability to maintain positive working relationships with contractors, builders, and the public;
  • Excellent customer service skills, including strong listening and negotiation abilities;
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making capabilities;
  • The physical ability to kneel, crouch, and climb ladders;
  • A valid California State driver's license.

4LEAF anticipates offering a competitive hourly wage ranging from $36 to $54, based on experience and location.
