Job Overview

Salary: $30-42/hr

The Lead Sterile Processing Technician plays a crucial role in the sterilization and maintenance of surgical instruments, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the cleanliness and organization of the central processing area, including shelves, counters, and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with sterilization protocols and procedures.
  • Thoroughly clean each instrument following the manufacturer's guidelines.
  • Examine instruments under a microscope for any damage or defects; lubricate items as necessary.
  • Sort and arrange instruments into designated trays according to established policies.
  • Label each instrument accurately with its name and expiration date.
  • Operate sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, and other processing machinery effectively.
  • Monitor equipment indicators to confirm proper operation.
  • Conduct required biological and chemical monitoring tests on all sterilizers and maintain detailed logs.
  • Manage inventory levels and maintain accurate records.
  • Perform regular inspections of all sterile items within the facility.
  • Check for expired items and assess the integrity of wrapped sterilized products; replace items as needed.
  • Keep the instrument tray inventory list updated.

Educational Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
  • Completion of training or courses in sterile techniques and instrument sterilization.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience in Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC) is preferred.
  • Strong ethical standards and positive character references.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to foster a positive image of the facility among patients and the public.
  • Proficient in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Language proficiency adequate for high-level communication in American English.
