Position Overview:
In this role, the Lead Obstetrical Technician collaborates closely with the Registered Nurse to support the professional nursing team within the Labor and Delivery Unit by executing essential non-nursing tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervises and evaluates the performance of fellow Obstetrical Technicians.
Facilitates the onboarding and training process for new OB Technicians joining the team.
Conducts regular inspections of labor and delivery rooms to ensure the availability of well-maintained equipment and necessary supplies.
Monitors preventive maintenance schedules for equipment and tracks expiration dates of medical supplies.
Prepares emergency equipment for immediate use.
Greets patients upon arrival and guides them to their designated rooms.
Collects patient identification, including Kaiser Card and photo ID.
Creates temporary patient ID bracelets.
Assists in transporting patients to various areas such as delivery rooms, Cesarean sections, ultrasound, or postpartum units as required.
Reviews testing schedules and retrieves patient charts.
Ensures an adequate supply of necessary medical packs.
Prepares a sterile delivery table and neonatal unit for childbirth.
Unpacks and organizes materials for Cesarean deliveries.
Assists in surgical scrubbing for C-sections.
Supports the RN during patient recovery in the delivery and Cesarean rooms.
Organizes and files monitor strips appropriately.
Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization.
Delivers specimens to the laboratory.
Maintains cleanliness and organization in utility and supply rooms.
Responds to calls and inquiries promptly.
Performs additional related duties as required.

Qualifications:
Experience
The senior classification for Obstetrical Technician applies to those specifically assigned to oversee and evaluate the work of other Technicians or those with a minimum of two years of experience in the field, demonstrating the capability to perform complex procedures under general supervision.
Proficient in reading and understanding instructions, correspondence, and memos. Capable of composing simple written communications. Basic computer proficiency is required.Ability to effectively communicate information in individual and small group settings to clients, customers, and colleagues.
Must be adaptable to working within a Labor Management Partnership environment. Please refer to the Position Specifications as outlined in the relevant collective bargaining agreement.Education
