Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for assessing, implementing, and coordinating respiratory care plans for inpatients. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality patient care and contribute to the development of our respiratory therapy program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and implement respiratory care plans for inpatients, including the use of complex technical equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
  • Continuously monitor therapy and make timely revisions and modifications to the treatment plan as needed.
  • Collaborate with interns, residents, attending physicians, and pulmonary physiologists to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and departmental statistical records.
  • Stay up-to-date with departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and participate in ongoing education and training to enhance clinical skills.
Requirements
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, with a CoARC-approved college degree in Respiratory Therapy (B.S. preferred).
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Therapy, Basic Life Support Certificate by American Heart Association, and Licensed by the State of Connecticut in Respiratory Therapy.
  • One year of in-hospital clinical practice experience, with a preferred sub-specialty in critical care.
Working Conditions

This position requires exposure to respiratory and other pathogens, including drug-resistant strains of tuberculosis and A. Staph, HIV, and hepatitis B. You will also be exposed to blood and body fluids, as well as potentially harmful substances listed in the MSDS.

You will be required to administer tests and/or therapy in a standing position (75%), respond to emergencies with rapid dispatch, and perform prolonged cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

This role requires the ability to lift, pull, and push objects up to 40 pounds, transport equipment weighing up to 300 pounds on rollers, and move patients weighing up to 300 pounds with assistance using proper body mechanics and equipment.
