Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for assessing, implementing, and coordinating the Respiratory Care Plan for inpatients and a wide variety of complex technical equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and implement the Respiratory Care Plan for inpatients
  • Coordinate the use of complex technical equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes
  • Continuously monitor therapy, therapeutic response, and the disease process being treated
  • Makes appropriate and timely revisions and modifications to the treatment plan in consult with the interns, residents, attending physicians, and pulmonary physiologist
Requirements
  • Minimum of two years (A.S. degree in Respiratory Therapy) CoARC approved college (B.S. preferred)
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Therapy
  • Basic Life Support Certificate by American Heart Association
  • Licensed by the State of Connecticut in Respiratory Therapy
  • One year in-hospital clinical practice experience
Working Conditions

Exposure to respiratory and other pathogens including drug resistant strains of tuberculosis and A. Staph, HIV, and hepatitis B. Exposure to blood and body fluids. Exposure to glutaraldehyde, pentamidine, ribovirin, and other potentially harmful substances listed in the MSDS.

Administers tests and/or therapy in a standing position (75%). Able to respond to emergencies with rapid dispatch, including the ability to walk up to 7 flights of stairs. Bending to angles greater than 45 degrees. Lifting, pulling and pushing objects up to 40 pounds. Transports equipment weighing up to 300 pounds on rollers. Able to move patients weighing up to 300 pounds with assistance using proper body mechanics and equipment. Able to perform prolonged cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
