Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly experienced and talented Principal Civil Engineer to join our Silver Spring, MD office. As a Principal Civil Engineer, you will be responsible for guiding our team to create sustainable multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts.
Key Responsibilities- Independently manage and lead company projects in the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Assist the Silver Spring Civil Engineering Group Manager and/or the Regional Design Director.
- Deliver projects from concept to construction, including stakeholder outreach and charrettes, developing feasibility studies and concept plans, and preparing construction documents.
- Participate in business development and project pursuits.
- Play a key role in the firm's quality initiatives.
- A Professional Engineering license in MD (other Mid-Atlantic states a plus).
- A bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering.
- At least 15 years of engineering experience developing construction documents and/or public agency construction administration.
- At least 5 years serving in a project and/or design management role.
- A broad knowledge base in civil engineering, with specific experience in roadway design, drainage design, geometric design, 3D modeling, and design of accessible public spaces.
- A proven track record of past performance delivering multiple large/complex projects on time and on budget.
- Experience developing construction documents.
- Experience in preparing transportation and local agency permit documents.
- General experience leading multidisciplinary teams, coordinating utility and right-of-way impacts, street lighting, traffic signal, and landscape/hardscape layout.
- Interest in multimodal and active transportation design.
- Experience in managing staff.
- Proficiency in Computer Automated Design (AutoCAD or MicroStation) and design software (Civil 3D, GEOPAK or InRoads).
- Experience managing engineering projects in the State of Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic.
- Experience in preparing proposals and scope/fees.
- Interest in business development.
