About the Role

Toole Design Group is seeking an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to join our Silver Spring, MD office. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for guiding our engineers to create sustainable multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage company projects in the Mid-Atlantic region, collaborating with clients and colleagues from various disciplines.
  • Develop and deliver projects from concept to construction, including stakeholder outreach, feasibility studies, and construction documents.
  • Participate in business development and project pursuits, contributing to the firm's quality initiatives.
  • Manage and lead multidisciplinary teams, coordinating utility and right-of-way impacts, street lighting, traffic signal, and landscape/hardscape layout.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
Requirements
  • A Professional Engineering license in MD (other Mid-Atlantic states a plus).
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering.
  • At least 15 years of engineering experience developing construction documents and/or public agency construction administration.
  • At least 5 years serving in a project and/or design management role.
  • A broad knowledge base in civil engineering, with specific experience in roadway design, drainage design, geometric design, 3D modeling, and design of accessible public spaces.
  • A proven track record of delivering multiple large/complex projects on time and on budget.
  • Experience developing construction documents, preparing transportation and local agency permit documents, and leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in Computer Automated Design (AutoCAD or MicroStation) and design software (Civil 3D, GEOPAK or InRoads).
