Agriculture Compliance Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Agriculture Compliance Specialist to join our team at the Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA). As a key member of our Food Safety Division, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and quality of Georgia's agricultural products.
Job Summary:The Agriculture Compliance Specialist will be responsible for conducting inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, rules, and regulations related to agriculture and food safety. This includes reviewing sanitation practices, collecting samples, and conducting random and unannounced inspections of dairy farms and plants.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, rules, and regulations
- Review sanitation practices and collect samples as necessary
- Conduct random and unannounced inspections of dairy farms and plants
- Advises dairy firm managers and personnel about health and food sanitation rules and regulations
- Review plans and specifications for new or renovated food establishments
- Submits license applications, documents, and fees by established policies, laws, rules, and regulations
- Issues stop-sale orders or witnesses' voluntary destruction of food items suspected of being adulterated, contaminated, or misbranded
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Animal Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related area from an accredited college or university
- One year of experience conducting inspections and investigations for compliance or certification as a Registered Sanitarian or Environmental Health Specialist
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to travel and work in a fast-paced environment
- Certification as a registered sanitarian or registered environmental health specialist by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA)
- Two years of professional experience conducting inspections and investigations for compliance with established state and federal health and food and/or milk sanitation laws, rules, and regulations
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
