Position: Anesthesia Care Provider

Job Overview

As an integral member of the anesthesia team, the Anesthesia Care Provider operates under the supervision of anesthesiologists to deliver exceptional, patient-focused, evidence-based anesthesia services. This role involves caring for patients across various acuity levels in diverse environments, including surgical, obstetric, diagnostic, and therapeutic settings.

Primary Responsibilities

The clinical duties of the Anesthesia Care Provider will be assigned by an anesthesiologist. The care provided is guided by an anesthesiologist who shares responsibility for the patient's well-being. Under the anesthesiologist's direction, the Anesthesia Care Provider will:
  • Administer anesthetic agents and adjunct medications as directed.
  • Ensure the availability of necessary operating room supplies, medications, and gases.
  • Provide clinical education, oversight, or training to staff regarding anesthesia practices.
  • Collect samples or specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Engage in professional development activities such as seminars and workshops to stay updated on advancements in anesthesiology.
  • Gather and document patients' pre-anesthetic health histories.
  • Execute airway management interventions, including tracheal intubation and ventilatory support.
  • Monitor and document patients' recovery during the post-anesthesia phase.
  • Test and calibrate anesthesia delivery systems and monitoring equipment.
  • Administer blood products or supportive fluids as necessary.
  • Regulate anesthesia levels throughout procedures.
  • Respond to emergencies by providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), basic cardiac life support (BLS), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), or pediatric advanced life support (PALS).
  • Assist anesthesiologists in patient monitoring, including EKG, arterial pressure, central venous pressure, arterial blood gas, hematocrit, and routine vital signs.
  • Support the application of advanced life support techniques, including high-frequency ventilation and intra-arterial cardiovascular assistance devices.
  • Aid anesthesiologists in conducting anesthetic procedures such as epidural and spinal injections.
  • Assist in implementing monitoring techniques like pulmonary artery catheterization and electroencephalographic spectral analysis.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to function effectively as part of an anesthesia care team.

Proficiency in operating and interpreting data from various equipment essential for anesthesia care and perioperative support to ensure patient safety.

Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with clinical staff and other disciplines.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for the patient populations served.

Understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan and ability to assess patient data relevant to specific population needs.

Knowledge of infection prevention and control measures.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient records.

Adherence to facility policies and procedures.

Facilitation of timely care delivery and efficient operation of the operating room.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Master's degree in Anesthesia.

Minimum Experience Required

One (1) year of relevant experience in a clinical or hospital environment, focusing on quality and performance improvement.

Minimum Licensure/Certification Required By Law

Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA).

Licensure as an Anesthesiologist Assistant in the relevant state.

BLS certification is mandatory.
