As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) operates under the guidance of anesthesiologists to provide exceptional, patient-focused, evidence-based anesthesia care. The CRNA is responsible for managing patients across various levels of acuity in diverse environments, including surgical, obstetric, diagnostic, and therapeutic settings.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing with active RN Licensure in Georgia
- Graduation from an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program recognized by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs or its predecessor
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in a clinical hospital environment, focusing on quality care or performance enhancement
Licensure and Certification Requirements
- Current Georgia Licensure as a CRNA
- Certification from the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Key Responsibilities
The CRNA's clinical duties will be assigned by an anesthesiologist, who shares the responsibility for patient care. Under the anesthesiologist's direction, the CRNA will:
- Assist in the preoperative collection and documentation of patient information
- Review and request laboratory and diagnostic studies as permitted by state regulations
- Administer pre-anesthetic medications or treatments
- Formulate and execute an anesthesia care plan
- Prepare and utilize necessary equipment, including invasive and non-invasive monitoring devices, for sedation and anesthesia administration
- Select and manage analgesic and anesthetic agents, fluids, or blood products essential for anesthesia services
- Oversee all aspects of airway management
- Facilitate patient recovery from anesthesia by assessing responses and providing necessary medications and support
- Initiate cardiovascular and respiratory support as needed during the post-anesthesia phase
- Evaluate patient responses to anesthesia and surgical procedures, taking appropriate actions as necessary
- Administer regional anesthetic techniques within the scope of clinical privileges
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to function effectively as part of an anesthesia care team
- Proficiency in operating and interpreting data from various anesthesia-related equipment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with clinical staff
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care for diverse patient populations
- Understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan
- Familiarity with infection prevention and control practices
- Capacity to maintain confidentiality of patient records
- Commitment to adhering to facility policies and procedures
- Ability to ensure timely care delivery and efficient operation of the operating room
