The primary role of the Mechanical Equipment Technician Intern is to ensure that all state-owned equipment operates at optimal mechanical performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance as required.
  • Complete assigned repair tasks efficiently.
  • Report any significant mechanical issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain accurate work order documentation.
  • Order necessary parts and manage inventory in the garage stock room.
  • Keep the work area organized and clean.
  • Assist with unloading supplies and managing waste materials.
  • Participate in training sessions for new maintenance procedures and skills.

JOB DUTIES

The intern will be responsible for performing repairs and preventive maintenance on various equipment, including:

  • 3-prong accessories
  • Antennas
  • Camera systems
  • Lighting systems
  • Electrical components
  • Motorcycle and trailer wiring
  • Radio equipment

Additionally, the intern will:

  • Maintain logs of repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools to troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Test equipment to confirm proper functionality.
  • Perform custodial duties as directed by supervisory personnel.
  • Complete other related tasks as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Physical capability to lift and maneuver heavy automotive components.
  • Effective communication skills for following instructions.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and sounds accurately.
  • Proficient in both verbal and written communication.
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical issues effectively.
  • Proficient in operating assigned tools and equipment.
  • Capable of completing various repair tasks, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and computer-related work.
  • Skilled in using diagnostic testing equipment for troubleshooting.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position typically operates within a garage setting, requiring:

  • Extended periods of standing on concrete surfaces.
  • Work in close quarters with exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Physical activities including sitting, standing, crouching, kneeling, and lifting heavy objects.
