Position Overview

Under general oversight, the Radiology Imaging Specialist is responsible for preparing both equipment and patients for advanced imaging procedures. This role involves the safe and precise execution of nuclear imaging scans as per established protocols, ensuring a secure environment that promotes high-quality patient care while accurately measuring radioactive isotopes in designated body regions.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Prepare and calculate the appropriate type and quantity of radioactive isotopes required for each imaging examination.
  2. Operate radioisotope machinery for the calibration of isotopes and the capture of diagnostic images.
  3. Evaluate the quality of purchased isotopes and monitor for potential contamination using detection devices.
  4. Ensure all imaging equipment is functioning correctly through routine quality control checks and maintenance.
  5. Maintain comprehensive records of tests performed, results obtained, and the usage and disposal of isotopes.
  6. Participate in all required meetings and training sessions.
  7. Uphold patient confidentiality and manage protected health information appropriately.
  8. Adhere to the organization's Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
  9. Foster a safe working environment and report any safety issues as necessary.
  10. Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Team Collaboration

All roles within Huntsville Memorial Hospital are integral to an interdisciplinary team, contributing to the delivery of care and services through effective collaboration with fellow team members. This position primarily interacts with hospital personnel, medical staff, patients, and visitors.

Qualifications

Education: Completion of an accredited nuclear medicine technology program is required.

Experience: No prior experience is necessary.

Licensure/Certification: A current license from the State of Texas and registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Nuclear Medicine and/or CNMT is mandatory. Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 60 days of employment.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

This position requires medium physical strength to assist patients during examinations or treatments.

Frequent Activities: Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, and walking.

Occasional Activities: Reaching, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting.

Visual and auditory acuity is essential, along with depth perception for reviewing diagnostic images. The work environment is primarily indoors, featuring good ventilation and a comfortable temperature.

Potential Exposures: This role may involve exposure to hazardous chemicals, moving mechanical parts, electrical hazards, radiant energy, infectious diseases, and blood-borne pathogens.
